Celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians, who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate and prosperous nation we know today.

The Collingwood Public Library will be hosting two speakers during the month of February.

On February 3rd Karolyn Smardz Frost, author of ‘I’ve Got a Home in Glory Land’ will tell the story of fugitive slaves Thornton and Lucie Blackburn; and their dramatic escape to Canada via the Underground Railroad.

On February 10th Emancipation Festival Historian; Janey Cooper Wilson will present ‘Reconstruction & the Road to the Oval Office’, a discussion about the Reconstruction Era following the Civil War and a look to the future.

A collection of historic artifacts will be on display for the month of February, courtesy of Janey Cooper Wilson.
