Ubisoft to Open Toronto Studio

Ubisoft, the French based video and computer game maker has been coming up with winners the last several years and they seem to have scored a big one with Dalton McGuinty. As of 2004, it was the third-largest independent video game publisher in Europe, and the seventh largest in the United States.
Investments by the Dalton McGuinty Ontario Government amounted to C$263 million over 10 years to bolster the C$500 million investment over the same period from France’s Ubisoft.
This ups the software games development company’s stake in Canada, expanding on the Montreal and Quebec City studios. A film based development studio expansion is also planned.
The Ontario Government’s investment is hardly surprising given the job starved Ontario’s need to provide more jobs. About 800 jobs is ultimately planned for. For Ubisoft? I’d say it’s a pretty good deal given the plentiful talent here in Toronto in need of good jobs. And added to the sweet investment deal from the Ontario Government.
