There is a common dialogue going around. Doesn’t matter if you’re 10 or seventy- something. It goes something like this: “Are you getting the shot?”

“No, I hate needles.”

“Well, maybe you do, but it’s better than dying!”

I overheard that actual conversation in grade five last week. The more grown-up version would be: “Yes.  I always get a flu shot.”  Or, “No, I’ll boost my own immune system naturally.”

With all the hype in the media lately, it will be the strong, independent thinker who decides to swim against the flow.  Especially since, despite wide coverage, I have not heard the ‘No’ side of the issue presented.. It hardly need be said that mainstream media and several pharmaceutical corporations are reaping a windfall from this ‘pandemic’.

So, in the interest of balanced reporting, I have sought information from several healthcare professionals so that we can make an informed decision.

Many untruths are circulating out there and how do we know what to believe?  Here’s a start:

Can I actually get the flu from the vaccine? No.  The reason people get sick right after a vaccination is that it’s a strain on the immune system and a weakened system picks up any other infection around.

Has the vaccine been appropriately tested for effectiveness?  Again, no. There has not been enough time to test for effectiveness and side effects.  There are eight different H1N1 vaccines available, made by eight different companies.  Five have been tested on the H5N1 (not H1N1) and the other three were tested on a previous year’s strain, not the current one.

Are there adjuvants in the vaccine? Adjuvants are added to stabilize it, and are present in all but two of the vaccines.  They have been linked to several auto-immune diseases. This year’s H1N1 has more adjuvants than most vaccines currently available.

Has the H1N1 been tested on the age groups for which it’s recommended?  No. Only the 18 – 65 age group was tested.. It is recommended for children, pregnant women and seniors, none of whom have been involved in the test groups for any of the eight vaccines.

Wasn’t the Swine Flu vaccine helpful in 1976?  No.  There were more deaths and permanent disabilities from the vaccine than from the virus itself.

Loading your body with toxic chemicals like those found in the vaccines is not going to help your overall health, nor your ability to fight off colds and bugs going around in flu season.

Health Canada chose to use thymerisol – the mercury preservative- in the H1N1 vaccine…despite known neurological toxicity. The USA used alternate preservatives.

According to my naturopathic doctor, who is treating this like any other flu, the viral strains going around right now are not too dangerous and will just cause you to feel rotten for a few days.  And that, she says, is how we build immune memory and are healthier in the long run.

A healthy lifestyle, healthy eating, hand washing, hydration, rest and exercise are, obviously, the best route to prevention of any virus or bug. Hands off the face. Nostrils and mouth are the points of entry.

Gargle twice a day with warm salt water.  There is an incubation period of two or three days before infection proliferates and initial symptoms show up, and this routine is a powerful way to stop proliferation.  Likewise with the nostrils. Clean them at least once a day with warm salt water after blowing the nose softly.

Boost your natural immunity with foods high in Vitamin C and  and if you supplement with C as I do, make sure that it also has zinc to boost absorption. Vitamin D also strengthens immune systems.  And refined sugar weakens it, big time.

Drink as much of warm liquids as possible. This washes down any proliferating viruses into the stomach where they cannot survive or proliferate.

Many  naturopathic or homeopathic physician will offer a homeopathic flu kit which works WITH your systems to build against  invasive viruses.

All of the foregoing is NOT medical advice. It is simply more information for those who are struggling with the decision of H1N1 inoculation.  It’s your body and your choice.
