DASEIN design/build company that approaches every project from a holistic perspective
We create positive, healthy and regenerative personal spaces in which our clients and their families can thrive.
At DASEIN we concentrate on design and construction that is beautiful, restorative, and environmentally and economically responsible both inside the home and out.
We absolutely believe that thoughtful design and careful material choices take you a long way towards owning a healthy and efficient home. The basic fundamentals are walls that breathe, radiant heat, solar positioning, and low electromagnetic radiation.
Beyond an established portfolio of quality work, we offer our clients knowledge on:
Homes that Breathe
Our fundamental building component is an insulated concrete form made from recycled waste wood (100% natural lumber) bonded with cement. These blocks are
• Hygroscopic, allowing for a natural transfer of humidity and air between the interior and the exterior (vapour permeable). We believe that sealed structures with mechanically exchanged air are neither efficient nor healthy.
• Mold and fungus resistant;
• Fire, sound, and rot proof;
• Able to maintain a stable R value;
• Able to provide thermal mass values more than twice that of typical walls;
• Free of VOCs and offgassing.

Homes that are Toxin Free
Being rigorous about the choice of building materials can significantly reduce toxin build-up in your home. We carefully select everything we use from formaldehyde free drywall to non-toxic glues and no VOC paints, If you like, we can also introduce you to extremely healthy alternatives such as clay wall surfacing.
Homes that Reduce Manmade Electromagnetic Radiation
There is increasing attention given to the effects of electricity on our bodies. AC current creates both electric and magnetic fields – and these are, in turn, often referred to as electromagnetic radiation – another type of pollution. Reducing EMR in your bedroom is particularly important. It takes extra thought and planning to construct a home that is electromagnetic aware but then the process is relatively straightforward.
Homes that are Energy Efficient
Using the thermal (high mass) wall allows us to apply a variety of energy systems at maximum efficiency. These could include passive solar, ground source, electric (carefully located and planned), masonry oven, and gas.
Universal Design
We demand different things from our homes depending on our age, our circumstances and our abilities. Dasein will explore design and construction techniques appropriate to the flexibility and practicality you seek.
