COLLINGWOOD —The Georgian Triangle Lifelong Learning Institute (GTLLI) is pleased to present Tom Clark, Host of CTV News Channel’s Power Play with Tom Clark as guest speaker at its seventh Founders’ Lecture to be held at Craigleith Ski Club on Thursday, May 6th at 7 p.m.
Tom Clark has a long history of covering politics in Canada and has had a front seat to some of the world’s momentous events. He has reported from five war zones, most notably from Southern Iraq in 2003. He also did two tours of duty in the Persian Gulf War as well as in Bosnia. Clark served as CTV’s Bureau Chief in Washington and Beijing, where he became one of the first Western journalists to report from Tibet. His hard-hitting investigations have been recognized and honoured internationally as well as domestically. Clark, comes from a long line of journalists; his great-grandfather, his father and his great-uncle were instrumental in the construction of the landscape of Canadian journalism today.
Marilyn Knowles, Chair of the Founders’ Lecture Committee, expressed her pleasure at welcoming such an accomplished journalist. “New technologies are changing the way we get our information. Citizen journalism, bloggers, camera phones, 24-hour news channels—we should be well-informed. But are we? Where is the truth? Who can we believe? In choosing our speaker this year, we wanted someone who could provide insights into some of these questions. As a seasoned journalist, Tom Clark is ideally placed to do this.”
The Georgian Triangle Lifelong Learning Institute (GTLLI) is a self-funded not-for-profit organization founded in 1995. Its purpose is to maintain a self-supporting organization of seniors who seek self-fulfillment through participation in educational activities, at the post-secondary level, designed to expand their intellectual horizons. To recognize its Founders, GTLLI established a Founders’ Lecture, periodically inviting an exceptional speaker to address its members and the public at large.
Tickets for lecture and reception: $15.00 available at the Crow’s Nest bookstore in Collingwood.
