Every Simcoe-Grey resident should be able to find a local doctor – Andrea Matrosovs

During a recent visit to the Hants Shore Community Health Centre in rural Nova Scotia, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff announced that a future Liberal government would attract more doctors, nurses and nurse practitioners to underserved rural communities by forgiving up to $20,000 of their student debt.
This will assist the hard work of our community groups in Simcoe-Grey such as the Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee in Alliston and the Physician Retention & Attraction Committee in Collingwood, our two hospital centres servicing the entire riding,” said Andrea Matrosovs, the Federal Liberal candidate for Simcoe Grey. ”Whether we, as Simcoe-Grey residents, live in or near communities such as ThornburyStaynerTottenham or our larger communities, every resident here in our riding should be able to find a local doctor, and not go without just because we don’t live in the GTA.”

Matrosovs went further underscoring that this commitment from the Liberal Party would help attract more nurses and nurse practitioners to Simcoe Grey. “These professionals are absolutely vital in providing health services to rural areas such as our riding. I would love to see more nurse practitioners established here at home.”

A future Liberal government would work with the provinces and territories to forgive $5,000 per year in federal student loans, up to $20,000 over four years, for doctors, nurses and nurse practitioners choosing to practice in a designated underserved rural community.
