The Meaford International Film Festival (MIFF) returns this Labour Day weekend for its fourth season with an outstanding lineup of movies.

MIFF announced its lineup for this year’s festival at a special press conference at Meaford Hall Thursday afternoon (July 22). Producer Michael Anderson made the announcement and said the Festival is sticking with its past theme of: four nights, four films, four parties. MIFF is being held September 2-5.

“The Meaford International Film Festival is one of the signature events for the Meaford Hall and Culture Foundation. We’re very proud of the way the Foundation is linked into the community and the number of sponsors we have shows the support we enjoy in the community,” Anderson said at the announcement.

Anderson said the Foundation is particularly proud that MIFF is a perfect showcase for Meaford Hall and its ability to be an economic driver in the community.

“We know over half of our audience comes from outside of Meaford. We’re happy for them to be here in Meaford eating food that local caterers provide. The Film Festival is certainly an important part of life in Meaford,” he said.

Anderson said the theme of this year’s Festival is: journeys.

“All of these films have won awards at major film festivals around the world. They all come from around the world and I like them! I’m fascinated by them and I’m intrigued by them,” Anderson explained.

Opening night at the Film Festival will be a big event in Meaford. The festival opens with Restrepo a documentary that chronicles the deployment of a platoon of soldiers in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley (see story in this issue containing a detailed preview of each festival movie being shown)…
