Over $4100 was raised for Terry Fox by Hugh Timmerman

Over $4100 was raised for the Terry Fox by Meaford’s own Hugh Timmerman – a job/joy – well done Hugh!
Alex Wallace (Chair) and Martin Matthews (Co – Chair) couldn’t have been happier, to say the least – and the sun only made it better.
Thanks to my brothers and sisters, nephews, nieces, neighbours, ‘Encore!’ Chorus Barbershop Harmony singers, local businesses, friends of the Georgian Trail, people from various corners of this land — hear ye, hear ye! — together we were able to raise well over FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS in this 30-year celebration of the Terry Fox Run. True, I had to pedal my butt to fulfill a promise to ride 75 km in this event, even adding an extra five km in a couple of laps for the Collingwood contingent, but without you my efforts would have been in vain.
I owe you big time!
Hugh Timmerman.
Order Hugh’s book – Bombers In The Night Sky
In 1944, as a thirteen-year old, I saw a Halifax bomber come down in a ball of fire close to our home in the Netherlands. Sixty-three years later, I met up with the pilot of that plane living in Canada. This book describes not only his evasion but also Hugh’s own wartime experience.

This is a banner year for the Terry Fox Run and for one of its faithful participants, Hugh Timmerman.
The Meaford resident is gearing up for his tenth consecutive year participating in the local Terry Fox Run.
His annual tradition is to ride his bicycle from Meaford to Collingwood and back again. This year is no exception, even on the eve of his 80th birthday.
This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the first Terry Fox Run, and Timmerman remembers seeing the Canadian icon running by in 1980. Timmerman was working in a car garage at the time.
“That sight is something that never really leaves you,” he said.
Now, a retiree in Meaford, Timmerman is dedicated to the Terry Fox cause and to riding his bicycle.
Last year, he took a 600 kilometre trip around Ontario and came back to ride in the Terry Fox Run.
This year his goal was to raise $1,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation, and he’s very close already.
“Terry has always been an inspiration,” said Timmerman. He started riding in the annual events “out of respect” for Terry Fox.
He’s outfitted his bicycle with a custom sign that reads “I ride for Terry,” and he’s covered his helmet in the pins and badges he receives at each Terry Fox event.
