Posted by John Malloy on 09/06/2011

Next up for the Centre is our big fund raiser of the year – Valdy in concert on September 17 at 8 p.m. Tickets have been selling well, specially since we discounted them until August 17. They will be $40 after that and we are expecting to sell out. So if you want to see and hear this wonderful Canadian troubadour in person, call soon to reserve or drop by for coffee and pick them up in person. Our phone number is 519 599-7837, website www.marshstreetcentre.ca and email marshstreetcentre@rogers.com – we love hearing from you whether it’s about tickets or about a rental. (Don’t forget the Centre when looking for a neat place to hold a party, seminar, Christmas do – book soon for those, and even your wedding.)
Tenth Anniversary – Little Opera Big Show
Did you know you can save $9,970 by coming to enjoy this remarkable event on Sunday September 25 at 3 p.m.? Little Opera Big Show is held right in the Centre and has been running for 10 years. And how are you saving so much money by attending this concert? It saves you the cost of a trip for two to Italy for to hear a similar quality performance and singing, live in our very own Centre! Or if two people attended each full production from which the concert’s top hits are taken, the tab would round off to ten thousand dollars.
This year, an extra little fillip has been added with a pre-concert lunch at 1 p.m. One of our favourite French chefs, Jeannine Holden and her friends will surprise you with their cooking artistry. At $20 a plate – this is a bargain. Tickets for the luncheon are limited so book early.
Concert and luncheon tickets will be available through Riverside Graphics 519 599-3344 through the website www.operaatthemarsh.ca and by calling the Centre at 519 599-7837. Help celebrate this terrific anniversary show and get your tickets soon.
Thanksgiving lunch during Studio Tour of the Arts
Still in the planning stages, we expect to have a Ham and Scalloped potato lunch during Applefest and the Tour of the Arts on Saturday, October 9 – more next time.
Little Malt Shoppe of Horrors
Last year in an effort to get matching funds for our Trillium Grant which we received to help with the kitchen make-over, the Maintenance Committee conceived a group called Moving Marsh Forward to raise the money for the kitchen and other capital projects. This group held a wine and cheese with an expert (Derek Hammond) from the Silver Vine here in the village talking about pairing different kinds of wine with different foods.
This group of industrious volunteers has run a couple of other fund raisers for the Centre and continues with neat ideas to entertain us all. On October 28 they are planning a Family Fun night. Called the Little Malt Shoppe of Horrors, it will run from 5:30 to about 9 with games, music contests and food. Tickets will be available at the door, likely costing only a toonie. Information and more details will come out as we get closer to the date.
We still need to finish up the Centre’s kitchen, though we are very close, but some details need to be completed. As well there are other capital projects such as repairs to the chinking in the exterior blocks of the building and upgrading the air conditioning that are desperately needed. So the group will be obtaining sponsors to help pay for the event so that all proceeds will go to the Centre. If you wish to be a sponsor please contact Linda Potter at 519 599-3649. There are great opportunities for advertising here.
