Sponsored by Scotiabank … EVERYONE IS INVITED TO ATTEND A JOINT BOOK LAUNCH, ON APRIL 7 AT 6:30 P.M AT THE SUPERMARKET ART BAR, IN KENSINGTON MARKET, IN TORONTO. THE TITLES TO BE LAUNCHED ARE “INDIAN VOICES VOLUME ONE,” AND “HEARTS AND SOULS.”

India and Brazil…enjoy the best of both worlds as writers from these two countries unite to celebrate together during this joint book launch for “Indian Voices, Volume One,” and for “Hearts & Souls.”

The launch will be held April 7 at 6:30 p.m. at The Supermarket Art Bar, 268 Augusta Avenue in Kensington Market, in Toronto. Two special guests will also be in attendance, Mrs. Preeti Saran, the Consul General of India and Ambassador Afonso Cardozo, the Consul General of Brazil. An exuberant mood will prevail. Music will be provided by Mark Sepic and Gang and percussion of India and Brazil with Ramesh Balasubramanian featured on the Mridangam.

The launch is an exciting time indeed for the sixty-six emerging Indian writers from around the world who have contributed prose and poetry for this anthology. Incidentally, it should be noted that many of the writers featured in “Indian Voices Volume One,” are published for the first time so this is certainly a cause for celebration.
“Indian Voices Volume One,” provides a continuing newness, a renewed vision of words and history and makes all of it accessible well beyond the confines of India. Contained in the pages of this anthology is an amazing repertoire of prose and poetry penned by those of Indian descent who are living in different corners of the world. They bring to life the unique characteristics and myriad feelings associated with this unpredictable, pulsating and colourful country.

Toronto based, Actor/Author, Jasmine D’Costa developed this project and co-ordinated this book which was published by FortyTwo BookZ Galaxy. It is available in Canada online at: www.tradearchitects.com and in India in stores and from the publisher at: www.42bookz.com

On the same program, the second book to be launched is entitled “Hearts & Souls,” by Leopoldo Paradela, a Brazilian who migrated to Canada in 1986 and hasn’t looked back since. This is his debut book of poetry which succeeds in capturing his burning passion for life. The book is comprised of two parts. The first exposes a myriad of love poems from various hearts whose passion and suffering become quite evident through its verse. The second portion is composed of age old and very deeply spiritual quests.
Through poetry, many sublime ideas and messages are exposed and offered by the poet to his readers. Poetry can also contain intense ideas which might not reverberate equally had they been presented in prose form.
This book should be commended for its departure from worn out dark themes and returning back into the realm of love, hope and creation, themes that in the interest of being different have been near neglected in contemporary poetry.
Trade Architects (Canada) Inc. who have managed the Canadian Voices series and the Indian Voices series, has also co-ordinated and produced this book which is available at: www.leopoldoparadela.com and at: www.tradearchitects.com

Everyone is cordially invited to attend this joint book launch on April 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Supermarket Art Bar, 268 Augusta Avenue in Kensington Market, in Toronto.

Dragons’ Den Meaford Finalist Takes It All The Way!

Three weeks… That is all it took for Tanya Vesely, one of the Dragons’ Den Meaford finalists to bring her business to fully fledged operational fruition. The Travellin’ Scrapper will be opening its door to the public on Friday November 13, 2009 at 10am. The new store will be located at 24 Trowbridge Street in the heart of Meaford. The store, which encompasses over 1200 square feet, will boast a large open classroom space for instructional seminars and a place to work on scrap booking and paper craft projects. The retail section will carry a comprehensive assortment of tools, papers and supplies for this ever growing hobby.

This date and time will bring together over a year of planning, writing business plans, many a sleepless night and one fateful appearance on Meaford’s hugely popular take on the CBC show, The Dragons’ Den. On the show, budding entrepreneurs venture into the den to gain highly sought after start up funds. Meaford’s own Dragons, Todd Campbell of RBA Financial Group, Chris Davies of Muxlow Pharmacy, and Gary Bochna of SOS-Storage On Site in Thornbury saw merit and potential in Tanya’s idea and awarded her $1500 to get The Travellin’ Scrapper off the ground. In addition, some supporting prizes to assist her with the start up were awarded by the Business Enterprise Centre, mycollingwood.ca, ShopMeaford.com and Scotiabank.

In conjunction with Meaford’s Economic Development Strategy, The Travellin’ Scrapper will provide a new retail haven for people to shop in Meaford for their scrap booking and paper craft supplies. It will also bring 2 full time and approximately 4 part time positions to the Meaford economy. This is precisely the kind of result that the Meaford & District Chamber of Commerce was hoping for when it initially made the decision to host the first ever Dragons’ Den Meaford.

Visit The Travellin’ Scrapper at 24 Trowbridge Street Unit 8 or at www.travellinscrapper.com to see the wide assortment of classes and products available.

The Travellin’ Scrapper will be THE place in Meaford for friends to meet, exchange ideas and preserve memories.
